… do not include staying up late on a weeknight rushing to finish a competition essay.
But they do include chatting with wacky friends!
And anticipating tomorrow’s photoshoot!
I must be the only being in the Ed Board who’s looking forward to it, but wth. I get to skip classes right? Hahah.
OH SHIT I HAVEN’T DONE MY PHYSICS PEKA YET!
I'm at Yuee Sun's place with Shen Wen, Yi Shiuan, Meng Xin and Kar Yaw. We watched the lights go off at KLCC for Earth Hour. I agree with Joel, Earth Hour should be once a month!
Shit I can foresee that at this rate, by the time I go home, we won't have accomplished anything. Hahahaha. Oh well. At least they're staying overnight.
Yuee Sun's room got tv! But it's so blur, can't watch Grey's Anatomy from it. Bah!!
I am SO proud of myself!
I got a REALLY good score for English, even by my standards!
And I got 14/15 for the literature part, when Pn Shanti said she wouldn’t give us anything above 13/15!
And she told the whole class about it, wooot!
(Shut up everybody, I’ve failed two subjects already so I have bragging rights!)
Overall, I got 91!!
But David Chang got 93.
So I need to eat my socks.
Begone, laryngitis!!
As I will, so mote it be!
…
Okay nothing happened.
But I have a really awesome voice now. It’s all husky and deep and whispery and… Sexy.
:D
Okay maybe not sexy. But I like it! In fact at home right now I keep talking to my mom and sister so I listen to my voice and wait for it to do that funny scratchy thing. It’s not every day you get laryngitis and your voice turns out like this! I still can’t sing certain notes yet, and my throat is still dry, but the new scratchy voice I have makes up for it.
Sort of.
And I saw something on Briana’s blog that really made my day. Besides getting the spiffy new Ed Board shirt of course. And I loveeee ♥ it. The shirt I mean. Finally I get a new Ed Board shirt of my own! And the word CREW at the back looks sooo… PROFESSIONAL.
But I digress.
(Oh, help.)
Anyway she says, and I quote:
So today went to youth as usual, we talked about how many of us don’t have faith in The Dad. About how instead of believing, we always find all kind of reasons and excuses to prove exactly how The Dad doesn’t work. Or how we are too worked out in our problems, we forgot that the answers and solutions could be so obvious if you just pray.
“God, I have a BIG problem leh”
"Eh problem, I have a BIG GOD tau?”
… 3 … 4 … 5 …
OHWAITAMINUTE.
So THAT’s what it means!
And it’s a very cheering statement to have around, thank you so much Bree. :)
Take THAT, stupid problem!
*walks off singing “aaaand always look on the bright side of life”.*
… I like living, thankyouverymuch.
No more fever, but my voice is completely gone! All that comes out when I open my mouth is this rasping whisper, or a sputter, and lots of saliva. Yuck. My throat doesn’t hurt, but it IS swollen.
Conclusion (according to my mom): LARYNGITIS.
My first reaction was: “Ohhh. COOL!” Because the only other time I’d ever heard of laryngitis was when I was eleven years old and was watching this Winnie-the-Pooh cartoon in which Piglet got laryngitis and couldn’t speak for an entire day. I’m sure the producers were lying because Piglet didn’t come down with a fever in the cartoon and how can laryngitis only last a day when mine has been around since Tuesday?! Unless there’s something someone’s not telling me.
And since we’re on the topic, I love Piglet!!! ♥
But, I digress.
(HAHAHAH I just said it again!)
Anyway my mom just gave me a =.=” look and left me to fend for myself. Bah.
From Wikipedia:
Laryngitis is an inflammation of the larynx. It causes hoarse voice or the complete loss of the voice because of irritation to the vocal folds (vocal cords).
Right, tell me something I don’t already know.
Laryngitis is categorized as acute if it lasts less than a few days.[1] Otherwise it is categorized as chronic, and may last over 3 weeks.
Three weeks! I wonder if that’s an acceptable excuse for missing school on Monday?
Oh wait! I wonder if this is contagious? *runs to check*
…
Oh bother, it doesn’t state. I guess not.
CAUSES:
I hope it’s not a bacterial or fungal infection because that just sounds disgusting. And I do NOT have any tendencies towards smoking or alcohol!
Wouldn’t it be kinda funny, though if it were caused by singing too much? And I don’t think it’d be that far off the mark either. Just ask my sister! But this is stupid lah, now how am I supposed to sing along to the radio when Pokerface comes on?
:(
Symptoms of laryngitis can vary, depending on the severity and also the cause. The most common, and obvious, symptom is impaired speech, ranging from a raspy hoarseness to the total loss of ability to speak, except at a whisper. Other symptoms can include:
- Dry, sore throat
- Coughing, which can be a symptom of, or a factor in causing laryngitis;
- Difficulty swallowing;
- Sensation of swelling in the area of the larynx;
- Cold or flu-like symptoms (which, like a cough, may also be the causing factor for laryngitis;)
- Swollen lymph glands in the throat, chest, or face;
- Fever
- Difficulty breathing (mostly in children)
- Difficulty singing
- Difficulty eating
I definitely had all of that. Hoo boy, maybe I don’t want it to last up to three weeks after all.
In most instances, the symptoms accompanying laryngitis are more directly linked to the causative factor, such as infection. In cases caused by overuse of the voice, symptoms other than vocal impairment may be absent. Laryngitis, hoarseness or breathiness that lasts for more than two weeks may signal a voice disorder and should be followed up with a voice pathologist. This is typically a vocology certified SLP (speech language pathologist) or a laryngologist (voice specialized ENT).
If laryngitis is due to gastroesophageal reflux:
- The patient may be instructed to take a medication such as Zantac or Prilosec for a period of 4-6 weeks.
If laryngitis is due to a bacterial or fungal infection:
- The patient may be prescribed a course of antibiotics or anti-fungal medication.
If persistent hoarseness or loss of voice (sometimes called "laryngitis") is a result of vocal cord nodules:
- Physicians may recommend a course of treatment that may include a surgical procedure and/or speech therapy.
- Reduction of high-impact stress to the vocal cords caused by loud, frequent, and high pitched voicing is recommended.
- These may vary.
Oh yes, very helpful indeed.
On the whole, I just gained a lot of extra knowledge about laryngitis that I didn’t need, and it hasn’t helped my throat one bit.
Oh and I tell you something very funny. My house is out of panadol. Ohhh the irony.
You know why it’s ironic???? If you do, good for you! If you don’t, too bad never mind. Bwahahahaha.
Okay I go study/catch up with my work, like a good little girl, because if I study I can get good grades and then I’ll be happy and make my parents happy too, so on my birthday which is less than a month away they’ll get me some nice big big present and then I’ll be happier than a monk on the moon. Byebye.
Reflection:
Why does everything seem to hurt twice as much when you’re having a fever?
Ugh.
That’s right, all you unsympathetic friends. I’m a giraffe. You know, like in Madagascar 2. Damn funny, go watch. Giraffes die alone one.
So you’re all gonna leave me alone to dieeeee.
… I need to marry a doctor.
Yeah I’m sick again. Don’t laugh! I didn’t catch a fever the entire year of form 4, and this year I’ve already been sick twice! I’ve got a whanging headache (hmmm Harrison Bergeron. haha.) and my throat is dry and swollen. Oh and I feel like puking. And help, I still have so much work to do!
Now that sounded an awful lot like self-pity.
“Self-pity is... a sinkhole from which no rescuing hand can drag you because you have chosen to sink.” - Elizabeth Elliot
Oh who cares?
I have the awful feeling that everything will be alright tomorrow. Which means I’ll have to go to school on Monday. Which means I’ll have to sit for Biology and Mod Maths anyway.
Help! Why couldn’t I have gotten sick on Saturday evening instead? :(
My class has THIS number of presidents and vice presidents! From L-R:
Yeow Yi Shiuan - Scout President
Tang Shu Yi - Ketua Pusat Sumber
Ho Mun Keat - Presiden Kelab Kebudayaan
Kimberly Wong - Vice President of Band
Koe Yeet - Ping Pong Club President
Tan Shen Wen - Vice President of PMO
Chee Sze Geet - PBSM, but i can't remember if you're President or Vice President, sorry. Haha.
Chuah Yoon Leen - Choir President
Lim Jia Xin - Girl Guides Vice President
Hoh Hui Shan - President of Aquatic Club
Oh oh and if you count sports houses:
Sharon Lai - Penolong Kapten Rumah Merah
Kimberly Wong - Penolong Kapten Rumah Kuning
Scary class, much?
Girls + balloons! It was my idea to use balloons as props, and the umbrella was Shu Yi's.
Everyone.
We're quite a fun class after all. :)
Uninspired but still blogging.
Inspired but not working.
Motivated but not studying.
Full but still eating.
Aren't I just full of paradoxes?
Piano class party today, and I went to Aunty Judy's house to make sushi! Adeline and Nicole were already there.
Making sushi is HARD okay.
The pieces we made were PERFECT! But cuz of the stupid 2megapixem camera, you can't see it.
And if you're wondering why I didn't bring along my digital camera, the answer is: I did. But I'd forgotten that I'd taken out the memory card. And I'd taken it out because I took a picture of my brother trying (and failing) to pull a stupid prank involving hanging a skeleton over my bedroom door. And he thinks I'm going to blackmail him with that picture by showing it to my parents and revealing the kind of mischief he gets up to at home.
I mean, come on now, would I?
(biiiiig innocent grins)
Eheh so anyway, he was trying to snatch the camera from me, so I locked myself in the bathroom and hid the memory card in the toilet bowl.
Okay no I didn't! It's in my hairclip basket, but he doesn't read my blog. ;)
But, I digress.
(Cool! I've always wanted to say that!)
Meet Jayden!
And Jayden again! And after I took this picture, he actually came over and looked at it. O.O future camwhore in the making.
Adeline who got 142 for Grade 8 ABRSM Piano, I kid you not.
Joel who got 90 for Grade 8 ABRSM Piano Theory, I really really kid you not!
Known these two people since we were, like, 7?! That's almost 10 years! And now Grade 8's over I have no idea when I'm going to be seeing them again. :/ It could be twenty year's time. Or next week. Bwahaha. But in any case, I'll miss having both of you around, especially Joel ! I mean, remember that time when we were in Grade 5/6 when.......?
Okay I'll be nice and I will not bring it up here.
Cheers :) have a good life.
Tapi saya baru sahaja ingat!!
Yesterday 13th March kan?
One more month to my birthday!
*jumps up and down with excitement, and then runs off to make a birthday wishlist*
Not tonight anyhow.
ICC was good :) better than last year's. Congrats to Yee Hsiong's batch of interactors.
STUPID MOSQUITOES. My legs really really itch!
*SLAP*
Eeeew. I just killed one and I've smeared blood all over my leg. That blood had better be my own.
So I'll make this quick, before I get sucked dry like a prune.
Congratulations to all me SPM kawans!
Hwee Yeen; :)
Ern Lyn. :)
Congratulations both :)
And this was Wednesday night before the Chemistry exam.
Kononnya sedang mengulangkaji Chemistry. HAHAHA. But seriously, that story IS about a Chemistry set!! Ironic much?
OH SHIT WAIT I'M SUPPOSED TO CALL ELYSSIA RIGHT?!
Tomorrow is a holiday!
Just the thought of it makes me want to, like Lily's blog says, wiggle my toes and swoon. I mean, it's a Monday, and it's a holiday! Even better so since there are exams on Tuesday. One extra day to sleep in and stuff myself on the butter toffees I found in the cupboard study. Hang the fact that I have two tuitions tomorrow, it's a holiday! Three-day weekends should be made a necessity. How could anyone not be in favor of that?
And yes, I did skip school on Saturday, which qualifies it as a three-day weekend for me. Say what you want! I bet less than half my class turned up on Saturday! It's three-day weekends all around!
But come to think of it, THIS particular three-day weekend is ruining our mid-term holidays for us. Not so good, I guess.
And, I DID study today, I swear. Physics, Add Maths, Chemistry and Sejarah.
Just a reflection. If all those tokoh-tokoh pejuang negara had foreseen what kind of country we would become thanks to all those politicians mucking around nit-picking in parliament, ruining the country's image and, on the whole, not getting very much done, would they have fought as hard, or sacrificed as much for Tanah Melayu? I don't know but it seems like a wasted effort to me.
Another take on the old lie:
Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori.
On another note, guess what?
I, Louise Tan, have only sent 252 text messages this week.
Come on, tell me that's not bad compared to the 800++ that I usually send.
I've totally reduced my dependency on my handphone! To all text junkies who claim they can't live without their mobile phones:
yahbooooo, sucks to you.
I'm saving ten bucks a week on credit. Beat that. :P By the end of Lent I shall be rich and be able to go shopping while the rest of you sit at home broke. Nyahahhaha.
Okay gotta go write proposal, write essay, and study.
PS: Don't tell anybody about the butter toffees! They're mine now!
And by the title, I mean Shu Yi! It's after hours and I'm still in the library. Vooi Keat introduced me to this typing game and Carmen, her friend, Vooi Keat and I were all happily playing. And i got very poor score! Which is so notfair because this keyboard sucks!
HAHA. You're brilliant too, Ely. :)
"And here I'm waiting, listening to Kenny G (of all things) trying to find inspiration while I wait for Lou (my oh so brilliant bestie) to finish her dinner (she's in the EdBoard in Catholic as well) and give me a call, yeah?"
Stupid.
Pn Viji: Okay start your experiment now. One group member come forward to take your thermometers. And please don't break those thermometers! Break them and I'll make you pay RM20.
(15 seconds later)
Pn Viji: Careful with the thermometers! Please do not break them!
(5 seconds later)
*PLINK*
Prashanth: Oooops.
This happened today. Hahahaha. I'm serious.
